VyprVPN, a popular VPN for Switzerland, is part of the same group of companies as Usenet provider Giganews and has a decently large network with over 700 servers in 73 locations in 64 countries. These aren’t just concentrated in Europe and North America as we often see, VyprVPN has 14 locations in Asia, 5 in the Middle East, 7 in Central and South America, 2 in Africa and 5 in Oceania.
Better yet, these servers are owned and managed by the company. This means that unlike most of our competitors, we don’t have to rely on third-party web hosting.
If you sign up for just one month, VyprVPN is quite expensive at $12.95. However, if you sign up for a longer term, the price drops, and you can currently get a three-year plan for as little as $1.66 per month, which is very cost-effective.
VyprVPN’s strength lies in its commitment to privacy, which is backed by very strong encryption. VyprVPN also runs its own zero-trust DNS service, which avoids third-party interference at every stage.
VyprVPN’s speeds were somewhat disappointing when using OpenVPN, but now with the introduction of WireGuard, connection speeds are more competitive, averaging 160 Mbps. We’d like to see improvements in OpenVPN, but at least now we have a fast option.
VyprVPN is good enough for streaming, with a good selection of Netflix libraries, fresh Disney+ support, and unlocks for iPlayer, Hulu, and YouTube. Unfortunately, though, it can’t bypass Amazon Prime’s VPN blocking technology, and some Netflix libraries were blocked when we tested it. Torrenting is fully supported.
The desktop app is robust, with plenty of options and useful server sorting tools like favorites and ping times. However, we noticed that the kill switch doesn’t always work as expected, which isn’t great. The mobile app is more powerful than most and is pretty similar to the desktop version. There are many supported platforms that you don’t see anywhere else, such as some niche routers and mobile and streaming tools that focus on data protection.
As for support, you get live chat, effective email support, and plenty of written articles. This product isn’t up front, but it’s pretty close.
What Exactly is A Chameleon?
With Chameleon, you receive an extra layer of security to keep your information safe from deep packet examinations. Chameleon first muddles any Open VPN packet information. It uses 256-bit encryption for underlying data, which allows this VPN to circumvent government, corporate, and ISP limitations.
Despite the additional layer of protection, Chameleon still allows for fast surfing and efficient browsing. It is now accessible on all servers in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Chameleon will only be available to interested consumers with a premium membership.
VyprVPN Speed Test
For the evaluation of VyprVPN, all tests were performed on our 500Mbps connection in the US. VyprVPN servers were tested in the US, Canada, and Europe.
We first looked at the speed test results of VyprVPN using the WireGuard protocol, as it is generally much faster than OpenVPN.
Here’s the VyprVPN server in Seattle: 301 Mbps(On average)
At just over 300 Mbps, this is an excellent speed test result. Also note that since I’m not far from the VPN server, the ping is very low, which helps performance. If you are using a VPN for gaming, it is important to choose a server with a low ping.
Next up is the VyprVPN server in Los Angeles: 235 Mbps(On average)
These VPN speeds are still pretty good, though not as fast as the servers tested in Seattle.
The last US server tested was in New York: 210 Mbps(On average)
For servers further away, expect slower speeds as latency (ping) increases. And speeds above 200 Mbps are pretty good.
I also tested the VyprVPN server in Toronto, Canada: 246 Mbps(On average)
With these results, VyprVPN seems to offer fast speeds if you need a VPN in Canada.
The last server I tested was in the UK: 223 Mbps(On average)
Despite the long distance between me and the VPN server (high ping), these speeds were solid for a UK VPN server.
For comparison, I also ran some tests with the OpenVPN protocol. The OpenVPN speed test results were quite a bit slower than WireGuard.
- Seattle – 47 Mbps (On average)
- Los Angeles – 53 Mbps (On average)
- New York – 24 Mbps (On average)
In other tests of WireGuard vs. OpenVPN, it was also found that OpenVPN was slower than WireGuard on all servers tested.
Overall, VyprVPN works well with the WireGuard VPN protocol and works on Windows, Mac OS, Android, and iOS. While it’s the fastest VPN we tested, the results are still quite good compared to most other VPNs.
|Time Period||1 Month||1 Year||2 Years|
We won’t go too much into the price here, but what you need to know is that VyprVPN is on the affordable side, with prices as low as $2.50 per month if you sign up for two years. That’s about as low as you can go without the free VPN offer!
As for the payment and account setup process, you’ll need to deposit money before you can sign up or even download VyprVPN. You can choose from these payment options.
- Credit or Debit Card
- Union Pay
Unfortunately, Bitcoin is not an option, nor are other cryptocurrencies, which is a real drawback. After all, many VPN users prefer the anonymity of digital currencies. When you log in via your smartphone, your payment options will be limited to the payment method registered in your Google Play or iTunes account, depending on which phone you use.
Since Netflix started geo-blocking customers who use VPNs to access location-based movies and TV shows, it has become increasingly difficult to find a VPN provider that will allow you to stream Netflix content.
I tested VyprVPN’s Netflix compatibility with various servers in the US and EU. Here are the results I got.
- New York Server: Works great! Videos loaded quickly and I was able to stream without any problems.
- VyprVPN’s Chicago Server: As with the New York server, I had no problems connecting to Netflix.
- United Kingdom: Blocked
- Canada: Blocked
- Netherlands: Blocked
While I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t stream and unblock Netflix from any of their EU servers, it’s still a “win” for Golden Frog considering how rare it is to find a VPN provider that still works with Netflix.
Features and Easy of Use
The VyprVPN client is simple and well thought out. It displays uptime, buttons to connect and disconnect, and the country of your endpoint.
You can easily connect to the geographical endpoint of your choice and save your preferred endpoints. Click the Customize button and you’ll find a full list of advanced settings that let you tailor the VPN to your exact needs, including protocol selection, automatic connection at startup, automatic reconnection, automatic connection on public Wi-Fi networks, and a kill switch that prevents any traffic from being sent to an unsecured Internet connection.
In the protocol list, you can also enable Vypr’s Chameleon protocol, which tries to hide the fact that you’re using a VPN for restrictive Internet connections to countries like China or to local networks that try to hide users traffic. It was previously only available in the premium tier, which Vypr has discontinued, but is now available to all users.
Vypr has been an unlogged VPN since 2018, when Leviathan Security audited itself to prove that no personal data was collected from users of the service – now it might be time for a new audit to take into account any customer or infrastructure updates. The company says it will conduct regular audits. However, like ProtonVPN, the company is found by Swiss law, which has more power to require ISPs to log in on a case-by-case basis than in some other countries.
VyprVPN has dedicated apps for a variety of platforms, from Windows, macOS and Linux desktops to smartphones, routers and NAS devices. Golden Frog also provides extensive documentation on how to properly use its VPN service in various scenarios.
Privacy and Security
VyprVPN’s official headquarters is located in Switzerland, which is great for privacy. However, the parent company Golden Frog has an office in Austin, Texas, which might be a wake-up call for anti-NSA VPN users. Overall, though, we think this is a private and secure VPN with excellent privacy features. Thanks to a thorough third-party audit, it’s the first VPN that can fully prove the effectiveness of privacy protection on its servers!
This is not just an empty promise. They even conduct an independent audit to verify the enforcement of their no-logging policy. It’s a long document that you can find here. In short, some log events are stored, such as when a particular drive is full or crashes. However, most of this data is harmless and is not associated with the user’s identity.
VyprVPN in China
We can talk about OpenVPN and IKEv2 all day, but the main attraction of VyprVPN is Chameleon. This proprietary protocol uses the core of OpenVPN to negotiate connections and manage encryption. However, each packet also passes through an obfuscation layer that also encrypts the metadata it contains.
This is important for countries with strict censorship such as China. In these high-pressure countries, manual censors are often able to detect VPN connections through a process known as deep packet inspection (DPI). The Chinese government, in particular, monitors traffic 24/7 and blocks anything it deems harmful to Chinese citizens (this often includes VPN traffic).
We understand that when deciding to buy a VPN service, it is not only important to see what the experts say in their reviews, but also to find out if the real users and companies that buy VPN services are really satisfied with the product. That’s why we developed the Behavioral Customer Satisfaction Algorithm™ to collect customer reviews, opinions and ratings about VyprVPN on a variety of social media sites. This data is then presented in an easy-to-digest format that shows how many people have had positive and negative experiences with VyprVPN. With this information, you should be able to make an informed buying decision that you won’t regret.
We’ve seen better support than VyprVPN offers, but it’s certainly satisfactory. It also offers more help for international audiences than other VPN services.
VyprVPN has online support resources in multiple languages, including.
What is less impressive is the breadth of these resources. Compared to other VPN services, VyprVPN’s online resources are pretty anemic. There are no video tutorials and little in-depth advice on advanced topics.
However, the VPN setup guide is very useful.
By far the best way to get help from VyprVPN is to contact them via their 24/7 live chat. Responses can take a few minutes, but the customer support staff is always clear, helpful, and friendly.
Installation and Usage
VyprVPN offers apps for a variety of platforms, including Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android, which are easy to install and use. Once the app is installed on your device, all you have to do is launch it and tap Connect to stay protected. You can choose where you want to connect.
While these apps are simple, they also offer advanced controls for more advanced users. Some platforms don’t offer apps, but you can still use profiles to run VPNs on those platforms.
VyprVPN can run on multiple platforms and devices, including routers, Linux, Blackberry, Boxee, and more. They also have a knowledge base to help with common installation and usage questions.
VyprVPN can help you access Netflix, which is a great feature if you ever run into a block. VyprVPN speeds are generally good, but can be slow at times.
DNS Leak Test
As part of our privacy analysis, we looked at whether VyprVPN was allowing IP addresses or DNS queries through. We were pleased to see that the VPN did not leak.
As an additional privacy feature, VyprVPN uses VyprDNS, an undocumented DNS service. There is also a kill switch to increase privacy.
However, we also found that some of the servers that showed up in the DNS leak test were not VyprDNS (Powerhouse Management). In addition to VyprDNS servers, we also saw servers from Google, Amazon, DigitalOcean and Anexia.
We contacted live chat support about this, and the representative told us that this was an issue beyond their control. Not ideal considering that VyprDNS is supposed to provide a log-free service, but overall nothing to worry about.
With over seven hundred server locations, VyvrVPN covers all the prominent locations with a large user base.
These seven hundred servers are located in more than seventy locations in over sixty countries. Some countries have multiple server locations, such as the United States and Australia. However, intelligent placement effectively distributes the servers to users in different countries.
Since there is at least one server location in over sixty countries, users in that country can connect to that server, and if the load is high, there is likely a server location in a neighboring country.
Each server location has more than ten servers on average, which makes high utilization very unlikely. However, due to the huge VPN market in the U.S. and the large area, more server locations are needed.
Of the 13 server locations in North America, eight are in the United States. The other five are located in Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, El Salvador and Panama. This way, users on this continent do not have to connect to servers on other continents and avoid server overload.
Similarly, Oceania has four server locations: three in Australia and one in New Zealand. In general, Australian users are excluded and few providers host multiple servers here. However, in the case of VyprVPN, for example, you will find more than a dozen servers on the continent, considering its VPN requirements.
As far as we know, there is no country in Europe that has more than one server location, but due to the relatively small area, one location is enough. In any case, they can add servers at that location whenever the need arises. Here, there are servers in all countries with more than twenty-five servers, and if the load is high, there are certainly neighboring servers that help.
However, in countries with a large number of users like the UK and the Netherlands, additional server locations can be added.
This VPN provider also focuses on Asian users, with servers in twenty countries. However, no servers in China have been added yet, so Chinese users can connect to servers in Hong Kong or India.
However, so many servers and their placement in most places will guarantee high speeds. For example, a server that connects to Europe from somewhere in Nigeria will not provide good speeds due to the distance and the large user base that already uses the server. So, this is not a good solution in countries where the server is not in your country or in a neighboring country.
You may use a dedicated IP address with VyprVPN. This implies you’ll have a single fixed IP address that is distinct from your local IP address. This way, you won’t have to authenticate your identity every time you use a VPN to access, say, your email. The major disadvantage of having a dedicated IP address is that it makes it simpler for other parties to follow your online activity, even if they can’t figure out who or where you are.
The dedicated IP option is only accessible as part of the Premium subscription with VyprVPN. It is featured in VyprVPN Cloud, an additional service that provides enhanced security while using public or personal cloud servers.
How to Troubleshoot VyprVPN Connections Issues
When using VyprVPN, you may have connection issues. You shouldn’t be too concerned if this occurs. Neither VPN can avoid such difficulties, but fortunately, there are certain things you may do to resolve the issue.
Here are some things you may do to get VyprVPN to work again:
1. Exit the VyprVPN app and restart it.
2. Reboot your smartphone and try once again.
3. Turn off your default firewall, such as Windows Defender Firewall.
4. Use the Chameleon protocol if you feel VPNs are blocked in your location.
5. Uninstall VyprVPN and install the most recent version.
6. If all of the above steps fail, contact customer service.
How to Cancel VyprVPN
It is easy to cancel the service from the dashboard of your VyprVPN account. After logging in, click “Accounts” and then click “Cancel Service” in the “Services” menu. You will be asked for confirmation and you are done.
If you decide to cancel your VyprVPN service within 30 days and you sign up with a credit card or PayPal, you can request a refund (note that you must request a refund through Google Pay or Apple iTunes if you use them).
An essential feature that all VPN clients should have these days is the ability to allow customers to back out of an agreement if they are dissatisfied with the service. Fortunately, we can discover that with VyprVPN.
The service not only provides a three-day free trial for both plans (normal and premium), but also a month-long money-back guarantee.
This implies that consumers may try the VPN’s capabilities and characteristics for 30 days. They can then request a refund or continue utilizing VyprVPN services.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is VyprVPN good?
Yes, it is good. vyprVPN has many of the features you would expect from a high-quality VPN, including the ability to unblock many of the most popular streaming sites. vyprVPN also has many security features to keep you safe while surfing the web.
However, there are some drawbacks as well. The biggest problem I had with vyprVPN was that my internet speed dropped a lot when I used it. I lose almost two-thirds of my internet speed, which means it takes longer to download files from emails or load videos. That’s why I like ExpressVPN’s super-fast connection speeds. The VPN is so fast that I often forget I’m using it. That means I tend to use ExpressVPN for everything from unblocking streaming sites to torrenting.
Can I get VyprVPN for free?
Although you can’t get it for free, you can try VyprVPN for a month and get a full refund with our 30-day money back guarantee. All you have to do is sign up for a membership and try the software for a couple of weeks. When you’re done, make sure to contact VyprVPN customer support before the 30-day period expires and you’ll get a full refund.
I think after all this time you will find that VyprVPN is a great software for the money, but it is missing some important features. When I invest in a VPN, I want to make sure I get the best features for my money, and for $2.25 per month, CyberGhost offers that value. It’s only a little more expensive than VyprVPN’s best offering, but it has a lot of amazing features.
CyberGhost has unlimited device connections, fast speeds, the ability to share all major streaming services, and a lot of high-tech security features like dual-server VPN connections that VyprVPN just doesn’t have. You get all of these benefits when you try CyberGhost risk-free for 45 days and take advantage of our money-back guarantee.
Is VyprVPN secure?
VyprVPN has many security features, but it is not secure. When I think of security, I think of safety and privacy. The biggest problem is that VyprVPN doesn’t promise to protect the anonymity of its customers. Instead, it records information like emails, usernames, and billing information, which means your identity could be compromised. VyprVPN’s terms of service also include that it participates in information requests from law enforcement and doesn’t have to notify you if your information is shared as part of a criminal investigation.
Does VyprVPN work with Netflix?
The advantage of Vypr is that it works well with a variety of streaming services around the world. In the US, Netflix tops the list of most users. This version of Netflix includes a lot of content that you can’t access in the Netherlands. If you just want to watch. In this regard, there are ways to bypass the blocks and just go straight in. VyprVPN not only has servers in the right places. Also, the servers are set up to optimize the collaboration with Netflix. This makes it very easy to watch all the content it offers properly. That’s what makes it so interesting. So you can see much more than with a Dutch subscription. This is one reason to choose this provider if you are looking for a VPN.
What are the advantages of VyprVPN?
VyprVPN offers a number of important benefits that make it an attractive option to consider. First of all, it is one of the best options when it comes to playing movies in foreign formats with Netflix. Other foreign streaming services are also readily available.
Also, the fact that this provider’s VPN service is simply very easy to use. The software can be easily downloaded and works very intuitively. Thus, even without any technical knowledge, you will know what to do as soon as you open the program. So this provider has a lot to offer.
Where is the headquarters of VyprVPN located?
The company is based in Switzerland. This is because the favorable privacy laws in Switzerland make it easy for VPN providers to operate. Article 13 of the Swiss Federal Constitution guarantees the right to privacy. The protection of privacy in online activities is regulated by the Federal Data Protection Act (DPA) and the Federal Data Protection Ordinance (FADO). However, VyprVPN’s technical support team is located in Texas, but the VPN company does not have an office in the US.
What is VyprVPN Cloud?
VyprVPN Cloud is Golden Frog’s solution that provides an additional layer of security when using cloud servers.
If you’ve ever configured a VPN before, you already know that it can be a hassle. With VyprVPN Cloud, you don’t have to worry about that, it’s already set up and ready to go. You get your own dedicated server and IP.
Since it’s an enterprise solution, the prices are correspondingly high: packages start at $349 per year. If you don’t want to pay right away, you can request a free trial. VyprVPN Cloud supports DigitalOcean, Amazon Web Services and VirtualBox platforms. Most VyprVPN reviews do not mention this.
The best thing about VyprVPN is that it is completely independent. As a result, you get the highest level of privacy security when you are online. However, it does have some minor drawbacks. For instance, not all servers are equally fast and the service requires you to provide some personal information, such as for billing purposes. However, in terms of usage, this does not make any difference. Therefore, it is a good VPN option.
