FrootVPN Review 2022 : As Fruity As it Sounds, Brings Good Data Encryption. How About Speed ?

FrootVPN is based in the Seychelles, a country where there are no data retention laws. It has 150 servers in 25 countries and doesn’t store logs to protect users privacy.

With its low price, it offers the strongest encryption, doesn’t reveal IPs and works great at torrenting. It has average server speeds and doesn’t block Netflix, but streaming isn’t the only reason people use VPNs.

There’s also no dedicated app for all platforms, but it shows you how to install FrootVPN manually. In this FrootVPN review, this VPN is worth buying. Let’s take a look.

Speed Test

We decided to test the speed of FrootVPN servers in four different locations around the world. First, we checked the basic speeds (without VPN), as shown below.

Server Locations Ping Download Speed Upload Speed

Germany

44ms
23 Mbps
45 Mbps

Japan

361ms
1 Mbps

Canada

13 Mbps
8 Mbps

USA

Speed is an important aspect for any VPN. FrootVPN has 36 servers and based on the speed tests, it might be time for an upgrade. In particular, the dreaded Japanese server speeds dropped by almost 100%.

FrootVPN doesn’t offer a free trial, but if you look at their subscription pricing, you’ll see that a free trial isn’t really necessary. FrootVPN claims to be the cheapest VPN provider, and looking at their pricing, they’re probably right.

There are 3 different subscription plans: 1 month, 3 months and 12 months. The monthly fee is $4.99 per month, the quarterly fee is $3.99 per month, and the annual fee is only $2.99 per month.

If you are not satisfied with FrootVPN, you can cancel your subscription within 30 days of purchase and receive a refund. FrootVPN accepts all major credit cards and allows payments via Bitcoin and PayPal.

Privacy Policy

FrootVPN’s website states upfront that it “does not record its own activity.” Sounds promising, though we wouldn’t expect them to say otherwise.

The “Legal” page lists all the data that is not logged: “connection duration, connection timestamp, IP address, DNS lookup, location, and server the user is connected.

The only network-level information that FrootVPN collects is the amount of data you transfer and the current number of simultaneous connections (to stay within the 5 connection limit).

Seeing who owns the VPN provider can sometimes provide clues. In this case, FrootVPN appears to be one of several VPN brands that belong to Edelino Business, along with Anonine VPN, VPNTunnel, BoxPN and others. Sounds like Edelino is some kind of tech giant that automatically deserves extra trust, right?

All of this is far from proof that Edelino is doing anything suspicious, but it’s not really transparent either. While big-name competitors already conduct public security and privacy audits, the rest of the industry simply says, “We don’t record anything, we really don’t,” and expects users to believe they’re not enough anymore.

User Experience

If you’re a Windows user, you can download the client software from the FrootVPN website. However, if you want to use it on Android or iOS, you will need to download the OpenVPN client and configure the settings manually.

This will take a few extra minutes, but it is a one-time process. The website has instructions for setting it up on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, Chromebooks, and routers

Using a VPN is easy, and on Windows you can connect using PPTP, L2TP, IPSec IKEv1, and OpenVPN. Speeds are pretty good and bandwidth is unlimited for all packets.

Protocols

When it comes to VPN protocols, FrootVPN is surprisingly inconsistent when it comes to platform support.

What do we mean by that?
Well, for starters, FrootVPN claims to support various VPN protocols like OpenVPN, PPTP, and L2TP for platforms like.

  • iOS
  • Windows 10
  • OS X
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Vista

What the company doesn’t clarify is that you can only access the PPTP VPN protocol if you are on a computer that runs Linux as its primary operating system. This is also true if you are using FrootVPN on a Windows 8 machine.

The only downside is that FrootVPN only supports a very select group of routers. Compared to some other VPN providers, such as TorGuard VPN, which actually sell network hardware and set-top boxes with VPN software preconfigured, FrootVPN seems like something from the dark ages.

FrootVPN doesn’t have any dedicated servers. So forget about high-speed streaming servers or double-encrypted servers.

Unlimited Streaming

Are you a regular torrent user? You probably use torrent to download newly released movies and hacking software. I know that you know that what you are doing is illegal. For the same reason, many countries have blocked torrent sites and made torrenting illegal.

Since country authorities use specific geo-filters to block such sites and P2P traffic, you won’t have the same problem when using a VPN connection. A considerable number of VPN clients use torrenting as their primary access method.

With a VPN service, you can bypass the P2P restrictions. But you can’t always take advantage of it, as some providers restrict its use. Therefore, it is important for everyone to check the datasheet carefully to know if there are any restrictions on P2P traffic.

FrootVPN allows unlimited P2P traffic, yes, you heard right. You can download as much content as you want without any restrictions.

Conclusion

We found FrootVPN to be a good choice for users looking for efficient data encryption, a variety of places to change IP addresses, and good ratings for speed and customer service.

FrootVPN appears to be the product of a strong commitment to user anonymity and privacy. Unblocking geo-restricted content by changing the IP is also very effective.

We recommend this VPN because of its great features and reviews, as well as its 30-day free trial and money-back guarantee. However, it is not a suitable choice for users who need a high-quality VPN.
