Celo VPN Review 2023

Table of Contents

Celo VPN is a service with a small server infrastructure that supports all common platforms and devices. However, the standalone application is only available for Windows and Mac computers. All other devices must be manually configured via the OpenVPN protocol. There is more to discover in this updated Celo VPN review.

The company is based in Australia and is a member of the 5-eye Alliance. What does this mean for you as a VPN user? Australian law can require companies to share your personal information if requested by the government. In theory, your data is not completely secure as it can be easily accessed and shared with third parties. However, Celo VPN has a zero records policy, so no data can be shared. There isn’t much to say about Celo VPN on Reddit or Quora, except in threads containing some outdated discount coupons.

Speed and Performance

Using a VPN service will definitely affect the speed of your connection. However, many VPN use sophisticated techniques to increase connection speed. We tried testing all of CeloVPN servers and unfortunately found that most were quite slow.

This is due to the location of the servers the service uses and also because the number is really limited – 18 servers in 12 countries.

Data backup and Encryption

Celo uses the most advanced methods and tools to protect your privacy, including 2048-bit AES-256 encryption, ShadowSocks and SOCKS5 proxies that can easily bypass firewalls.

In addition, proven VPN protocols are used – WireGuard, OpenVPN (TCP and UDP) and IKEv2 – as well as a new protocol called V2Ray/vMess. The icing on the cake is obfuscated SSH tunnels.

The company also uses port forwarding, which allows any P2P activity to access its own private applications via clients like Usenet, utorrent, Deluge, Vuze, qBittorrent, etc., although not all servers are torrent/P2P friendly.

Celo claims to be a 100% log-free VPN, it only collects your information when you sign up to process transactions quickly and tracks it after you post it, as well as the date and time you logged into the customer area. This information is not sold, traded or otherwise shared with third parties. Nevertheless, there is no independent confirmation of the claim that it is not a logging operation. Moreover, the company is located in one of the countries that belong to the Five Eyes intelligence coalition, which warns against it.

User Experience

After signing up for a CELO account and paying for the required subscription package, you will receive a confirmation email with subscription details and how to connect. With these details, you should be able to download the OpenVPN client to your device and log in to CELO. Once logged in, you should be able to seamlessly switch between servers. CELO is a great service, but its inability to offer a dedicated app is a real disappointment.

Aside from not having a dedicated client for each platform, another big problem with using CELO is that it records partial and temporary logs, which is not ideal for those seeking complete anonymity on the web.

CELO is a great VPN with great features and the ability to share online content from around the world. However, connectivity is a little different to other VPNs, and users will definitely welcome dedicated software and mobile apps. CELO makes up for this by providing a detailed guide on its website that allows you to easily set up your VPN.
