Azire VPN Review 2023

Table of Contents

AzireVPN is a service provider based in Stockholm, Sweden – a place that facilitates privacy. This VPN provider has been in operation since 2012 and offers a comprehensive range of services and apps for all platforms.

With AzireVPN, you get advanced features that you don’t necessarily get with other services. These include WireGuard connectivity, IPv6 compatibility and SOCKS5 proxies. In addition, AzireVPN is a no-log service that allows P2P connections.

However, the client is too basic and lacks the features that make this VPN worth considering for the vast majority of consumers. This VPN also fails to unblock US Netflix and BBC iPlayer, which rules out finding a VPN for streaming.

Speed Test

AzireVPN is neither really fast nor really slow.

Performance was barely below our normal internet speeds for same-country connections, which was fine, but connecting to VPN servers further afield, such as from the UK to the US, was less impressive.

Connections Ping Download Speed Upload Speed

Without VPN

7ms
91.45 Mbps
98.35 Mbps

With VPN

8ms
86.52 Mbps
95.42 Mbps

The panning times are quite fast, which is an advantage for gamers. Here are the download and upload speeds we recorded for other VPN servers.

United States: 27 Mbit/s (download speed) and 54 Mbit/s (upload speed)
Netherlands: 61 Mbit/s (download speed) and 76 Mbit/s (upload speed)
Canada: 20 Mbit/s (download speed) and 8 Mbit/s (upload speed)

If you’re near an AzireVPN server, you don’t need to worry about speed, but if you need or want to connect to a more distant destination, you’ll find it’s fast enough for browsing and light streaming.

We did a connection time analysis for all server locations using the “azclient” service, which only supports the OpenVPN protocol.

We can clearly see that the product is not lightning fast when it comes to connection times. The servers in Canada and the UK performed better. But we can only call it better if we compare it to the AzireVPN servers.

Average connection times of more than 10 seconds can always be improved. We also experienced some errors when reconnecting to the network the next day. We then had to reinstall the software to get things back in order. Sometimes these small problems can be very annoying at critical moments.

Pricing plans

AzireVPN offers four different subscription packages.

  • 1 month for €5
  • 3 months for €4
  • 12 months for €3.75
  • 24 months for €3.25

The company offers a 7-day money-back guarantee and a 24-hour free trial after you sign up for the service. The subscription package offers up to five sync connections and access to all servers and features.

Payment options include cash, PayPal, Swish, credit cards and a range of cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Litecoin, Monero, Ethereum and other alternatives).

Server Locations

Azire VPN has just 24 servers covering six different countries, including.

  • Canada
  • Norway
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Spain Spain
  • United States

While this isn’t the smallest VPN network we’ve come across, it still doesn’t compare to ExpressVPN. The provider has a network with thousands of servers, so you have more location options for specific situations.

AzireVPN claims to have all its servers under its full control. AzireVPN also claims to remove all external and internal storage devices from its servers and to block ports. This may sound extreme, but it is still a good example of the security it can provide.

Security and Protocol

AzireVPN is a P2P-friendly VPN provider, which means you can torrent to your heart’s content on any of its servers, with perfect privacy protected by WireGuard, OpenVPN and SOCKS5 protocols. OpenVPN uses AES-256 encryption, while WireGuard relies on ChaCha20 Poly1305 encryption.

In its terms of service, the provider claims that it does not log traffic activity, timestamps, bandwidth data points, original or assigned IP addresses, or the number of active sessions.

Although these claims have not been confirmed by an independent auditor, they sound reassuring, especially when the source code is available online.

Streaming Media

Access to geo-blocked content from streaming services such as Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Hulu and others is arguably one of the most attractive reasons to subscribe to a VPN service.

In the early days of the streaming and VPN industry, almost every VPN service could offer access to geo-restricted content from Netflix and others. But streaming providers eventually saw through this little trick and started blocking the IP addresses used by VPN providers.

This led to many VPN providers throwing in the towel and no longer offering access to streaming services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is AzireVPN a good VPN provider?

AzireVPN has decent security and a good privacy policy, but its complex interface is hard to use and offers limited features. It’s better than some other VPN providers of similar size, but you can get a better quality of service for a lower price.

Can I get AzireVPN for free?

AzireVPN offers a 7-day money-back guarantee, so you can try it risk-free. Please note that this does not apply to 1-month packages. So you need to sign up for a 3-month, 12-month or 24-month package to benefit from this scheme.

Is AzireVPN really secure?

When configured with OpenVPN or WireGuard clients, AzireVPN ensures that I remain anonymous on the internet and prevents third parties, such as my ISP, from seeing my online activity. However, AzireVPN leaked some of my data while I was surfing the web before I set it up to work with a separate client. It also lacks advanced security features (such as malware blocking) that prevent hackers from stealing passwords and other data.

Summary

All in all, there’s definitely a lot to like about AzireVPN, and there are many features that set AzireVPN apart from other VPNs on the market. It’s refreshing to see a company that owns and installs all the hardware, and the transparency that AzireVPN displays is admirable. There are certainly shortcomings, such as the lack of streaming and torrenting.
